Basic Omaha Poker Winning Strategy

Omaha is an exciting poker game that looks somewhat like Texas Holdem with some basic differences. Here are some ways on how to develop our basic Omaha poker winning strategies.

First is that we base our basic strategies on a total of 9 cards in all. We are dealt 4 hole cards (2 in Texas holdem) and there are 5 board or community cards to consider for our basic Omaha poker winning strategies. The 5 cards appear in this order: when the game reaches the flop, we may consider 3 fresh cards dealt on the table. At the turn and river play a card each is dealt on the table to base our improved strategies on.

The hand is formed by using two hole cards from the four dealt us and 3 cards from the 5 community cards. There are 4 rounds of betting so our basic Omaha poker winning strategies can be worked out each round that new cards are dealt on the table. If we have J club, 10 club, 5 heart, and 5 diamond and the board has k diamond, Q club, 4 spade, 8 club, and 9 club, we can form a straight flush using the suited Q98 (club) with our suited J10 (club). Hence, with more card choices it's easier to form hand combinations with basic Omaha poker winning strategies.

Say, we have 3 kings of heart, spade, and diamond plus a Q club and the board has T spade, T heart, 3 spade, 7 club, and 2 diamond. Working out our basic Omaha poker winning strategies here would be limited to 2 kings. We cannot use all 3 kings because we're allowed only two hole cards and 3 board cards. Thus we have 2 pairs of K and T.

If we have a hand of suited AK9 plus a 6 heart with a board of three tens spade, heart, diamond plus A club and 2 diamond we form a trip 10. To put our basic Omaha poker winning strategies to work here, the A in our hand and the A on the board cannot be used with the trip tens because only 3 cards are allowed from the board. Hence, our poker hand is 10-10-10-A-K.

Thus, just keep in mind that only two hole cards from our 4-card hand are allowed to be part of our winning hand plus 3 cards from our 5 board cards. Remember, too, that any player may use the board cards. These pointers make up our basic Omaha poker winning strategies.
